“If I could go back in time and do things differently, I’d probably have pursued a career in…” This statement, or something like it, is one I hear often. Maybe you’ve even said it yourself a time or two?

In the years that I’ve been career coaching, I’ve come to learn that almost everyone has an unpursued path that they think about on the regular. A career path they would go after if they could have a do-over.

Looking back, a lot of people wish they’d taken a different program in school. Or wish they’d chosen a different opportunity when they were at a career crossroads. Or, over the years, they’ve discovered a strong interest of theirs, but are too chicken to give it a real college try.

Most people leave these paths untouched, dismissing them as something they might go after ‘in another life.’ But why can’t your do-over start right now? Why the heck can’t you start today to work toward doing that career in this life?

You can! There’s no time limit on your dreams. You can still do the things you want to do. Getting there might look a li’l different than if you had pursued them at 17 years old. But there’s still a path, if you’re willing to look for it (and walk down it).
