No Clue What You Want to Do In Your Career? Read This.

When people reach out about doing some career coaching with me, I commonly hear them say they have no clue what kind of work they wanna do next.

But that just ain’t true.

What’s more accurate is that they haven’t noticed the clues that are already there.

And these clues are everywhere, in almost everything you do.

Even in seemingly random things like books that you read, the podcasts you listen to, and the movies and TV shows you watch.

You see, there’s a reason why those things spoke to you. Why you chose them, versus the thousands of other options that are out there.

These choices and preferences are often dismissed because they’re so small, and are woven into the routines of your day-to-day life. They occur on a largely subconscious level.

But if you start consciously taking note of them, bit by bit they’ll make more sense. You’ll be able to make connections between the dots.

And if you follow this trail of clues closely enough, they’ll lead you to the treasure chest of career gold that you’ve been seeking.

Here’s an activity to help ya start noticing these clues:

First, make lists of a bunch of books you’ve recently read, podcasts you’ve listened to, and movies or TV shows you’ve watched.

Then, look over your lists and see if you can find any themes or trends among them. Can these things be grouped into categories? Do a bunch of them fall into the same genre? What do they have in common?

These overlaps and intersections between your interests are where to look. Where to dig deeper and do some research on the career paths related to them.

They’re not the answer. They’re clues along the treasure hunt.
